Thailand
Thailand
Our second location and our first border crossed into another country. We started in the south of Thailand and travelled up to the north, experiencing island and beach life to the vast hustle and bustle of the cities. Krabi, Koi Samui, Bangkok and Chang Mai all ticked off on this visit of this beautiful country.
Our First Impressions.
From beautiful coast lines, amazing island hoping tours, snorkelling, kayaking, long tail boat rides to TukTuk’s. Not forgetting the fantastic food markets and amazing Thai Buddha temples! This country certainly has a lot to offer.
Was the language barrier hard?
Arriving from Malaysia where the language barrier was minimal, we did find there was a little more of a barrier. Including the different alphabet used, making some of the signs a little harder to understand. Most people did speak some English and could get by, but if you where trying to find out an answer to a specific question this could prove troublesome. There is always the trusty Google translate app that works well in these situations.
Everyones favourite, Food.
The food did not disappoint! From street food to restaurant dining, the food taste was exceptional. Local Thai dishes were sold everywhere with great quality, but it also had a massive range of western food available and one of the main go to stores was 7 Eleven. 7 Eleven was fantastic for toasties and any kind of ready meal as they prep and heat up for you and the value was fantastic. 7 Eleven became a staple in daily life for us as a family whilst we were in Thailand.
Are there any Supermarkets/Stores?
Our favourite supermarkets we found for our weekly shop was Tops and Lotus. Which you can also use the APP Grab for delivery. We found we could get quite a lot of imported things in these places as well as the local produce, however we did find it super affordable to be eating out a lot more throughout Thailand.
Transport and Getting Around places.
We found in each different location there was a different form of transport. In beach areas such a Krabi and Koh Samui we found pick up trucks acting as a sort of bus system, the cost of these completely varied and we found that as a family of 5 it wasn’t particularly cost effective, meaning we hired a car which was very affordable. In Bangkok ways of travel were completely different, using Grab taxis, the BTS (Metro system) and of course TukTuk’s.
